The first Sunday of each October is the NAMI-WALK day for Madison. For the fourth year, 5NINES will have a walking team called Peter’s Pipers NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans impacted by mental illness.
5NINES co-founder, Rylee Wedekind, is walking this year’s NAMI-Walk to break the stigma of mental health issues. When her brother-in-law committed suicide in 2013, the immediate devastation to her family was crippling. “I want Mental Health to be a casserole issue – meaning when someone is having a bad day or their brain is sick, we’ll think first to bring them food, comfort, and love. Not judgment and accusations which happen too often today.
Peter’s Pipers walk in memory of Peter Streicher. His beloved friends and family gather each year to walk in silly hats to raise funds for important mental health awareness.
Please consider supporting NAMI by joining a team or making a donation through the Peter’s Pipers team page that is easy, fast and secure. Your donation will make a difference and help people and families affected by mental illness right here in Dane County. Thank you for your support!
